如果你另一个州的驾照已过期
另一个州的过期驾照不能在西弗吉尼亚州更新：你会被当作首次申请人，必须通过视力检查、笔试和路考。如果驾照已过期超过 36 个月，或者驾照已不在你手上，你还必须带上由原发照州出具的、开具日期在 30 天以内的经认证的驾驶记录。
需要的材料
- 仍在有效期内的证件美国护照或护照卡、美国军人带照片证件在有效期内都算数。如果申请的是非联邦用途的证件，过期不超过 36 个月的西弗吉尼亚州带照片驾照或身份证也算数。
你的社会安全号码（SSN）
提交号码，以及谁能看到它
按照联邦子女抚养费和税务法律的要求，车管局（DMV）会收集每位申请人和每位驾照或身份证持有人的社会安全号码（SSN）。号码只保存在你的 DMV 档案里，不会印在你的学习驾驶许可、驾照或身份证上。
要参加的考试
视力检查
至少一只眼睛的视力达到 20/40 或更好即可通过，可以不戴矫正镜片，也可以戴普通眼镜或隐形眼镜；双光望远镜片（bioptic）、望远镜片及其他特殊镜片都不算数，而且如果你需要矫正才能达到 20/40，驾照上会加注必须佩戴矫正镜片的限制。如果没通过视力筛查，提交一份填好的、显示你的视力符合本州标准的 DLAB Form 2 表，就可以带适当限制通过。
路考
需要
笔试可以考几次
考试次数没有上限，但如果没通过，一周之内不能考第二次——这个等待期是州法律定的，不是办事处的惯例。
笔试练习题
把驾驶员手册全部掌握就足以通过考试，但手册本身只是西弗吉尼亚州机动车法律的部分摘要。
如果要申请摩托车学习驾驶许可、F 类批注或 F 类驾照，你还需要《West Virginia Motorcycle Operator Manual》（西弗吉尼亚州摩托车驾驶手册），可以在当地车管局（DMV）地区办事处领取，或在 dmv.wv.gov 获取。
能不能用翻译
请做好用英文参加笔试的准备：官方公布的材料没有承诺提供翻译版试题或口译员，而且考场内只允许你一个人进入——不能带陪同人员，也不能带手机。官方公布的唯一考试便利是为阅读障碍者提供的语音版试题；残障相关的辅助免费，但必须至少提前 48 小时申请。
持学习驾驶许可练车
练车时谁可以陪你
年满 21 岁的持照司机、正在履行职务的驾驶教育或驾校教练，或正在履行职务的车管局（DMV）认证考官。
持 E 类学习驾驶许可时，只有在年满 21 岁的持照司机坐在前排的情况下，你才可以开车。
路考要带什么
谁陪你去
你必须以合法方式抵达考试中心；如果你只有学习驾驶许可，就意味着你不能合法地独自开车前往。手册没有说明送你去的人需要什么年龄或驾照类别。
路考评分表会记录陪同者的姓名和驾照号码，所以这个人必须持有驾照。官方没有对其规定最低年龄或驾照类别。
你必须以合法方式抵达考试地点。路考进行时，车里只能有你、一名或多名考官，以及一名口译员。
考试用车和保险
如果车窗贴膜的透光率低于 35%，或挡风玻璃有破损或裂痕，这辆车就无法通过设备检查。挡风玻璃或车窗上也不得有标志、海报或贴纸，除非法律要求或允许。
带上有效期内的保险证明和有效的车辆注册卡；车上还必须贴有有效的年检贴纸，车况安全、装备合法，你还要能找到并演示车上的安全装备。小毛病可以当场修正，但同一考试日期内不能换另一辆车。
