流程是这样的

你的社会安全号码（SSN）
提供你的号码，以及谁能看到
申请或更新驾照时，南卡罗来纳州车管局（SCDMV）可以要求你提供社会安全号码（SSN）的证明。税务厅（Department of Revenue）可以把纳税人的 SSN 报送给 SCDMV 和州选举委员会（State Election Commission）。
要参加的考试
视力检查
SCDMV 的视力检查看你的视力是否达到 20/40 或更好；如果你在网点没能通过，就必须由有执照的眼科专业人员检查你的眼睛，判断是否符合南卡罗来纳州的视力要求，你的驾照上也可能被加上必须佩戴矫正镜片或接受治疗的限制。眼科证明的有效期为 36 个月；现役军人则改为提供开具不超过 31 天的军人收支结算单（LES）和一张未过期的军人身份证件。
笔试有几次机会
南卡罗来纳州没有规定两次考试之间要等多久，也没有限制你能考多少次，但每考一次都要交 $2，而且必须在下午 4 点前到 SCDMV 网点才能参加考试。你可以在任何一个网点用现金、支票、信用卡或借记卡付款；卡必须是你本人名下的，不能用公司名下的卡。
南卡罗来纳州对笔试没有规定等待期，也没有次数上限；每考一次都要付费，笔试每次 $2。
笔试没通过的话，官方没有公布任何等待期、次数上限，也没有作废你申请的规定；再考一次，官方公布的唯一成本就是每次 $2 的考试费。
两个工作日、七个日历日、30 个日历日这样逐次拉长的等待时间，管的是路考，不是笔试。
笔试练习题
如果你申请的是 E 类或 F 类驾照，要看的是另一本《大型非商用及休闲车辆驾驶员手册》（Large Non-commercial and Recreational Vehicles Driver's Manual），不是普通的驾驶员手册。
对于普通驾照的路考，SCDMV 指定的复习材料是《南卡罗来纳州驾驶员手册》（South Carolina Driver's Manual）。
按你的许可所对应的车辆类型，看相应的那本手册；参加笔试当天，要在下午 4 点前到 SCDMV 网点。

使用翻译
如果你是韩国国民或台湾地区居民，办驾照时，你所属领事馆出具的认证信可以替代 4030 表的翻译件，但这封信自落款日期起只有 30 天有效。外国出生证明仍然需要 4030 表。
用学习许可练车
练车时谁可以坐在你旁边
必须有一位年满 21 岁、至少有一年驾龄的持照司机坐在你旁边。
你持学习驾驶许可开车时，陪同的司机必须坐在你旁边的座位上。
坐在你旁边的人，必须是南卡罗来纳州法律第 56-1-100(A)(1)-(7) 条列出的持照人员。
路考当天带什么

参加普通路考时，要带一位持照司机同行。车内和车辆周围只允许申请人和 SCDMV 工作人员在场。
考试用车和保险
车辆必须有有效的车牌、行驶证（registration card）、保险卡，以及由获准在南卡罗来纳州经营的保险公司承保的责任险——如果是租来的车，租车合同上的被保险人必须写着你的名字。车的前照灯、刹车、雨刮器、安全带、转向灯、后视镜、车速表、除霜器和喇叭都必须能正常使用。
