Una licencia de conducir o un permiso de conducir Real ID de plazo limitado otorga los mismos privilegios de manejo que una licencia de conducir o un permiso de conducir estándar.5
Si resides temporalmente en Estados Unidos, recibes una licencia REAL ID de plazo limitado. Vence en la misma fecha que tu estadía autorizada, o en 1 año si tu estadía es indefinida.6
Documentos extranjeros sin fecha de vencimiento
Una licencia de conducir extranjera que se entrega bajo un acuerdo de reciprocidad con el país que la emitió se maneja como lo especifica ese acuerdo.7
Si tu licencia de otro estado venció
Oregón puede eximirte del examen de manejo si tienes una licencia vigente de otro estado, o si solicitas una licencia de Oregón dentro del año siguiente al vencimiento de una licencia vigente de otro estado. La exención solo corresponde cuando solicitas los mismos privilegios de manejo que tiene tu licencia de otro estado, o una clase menor.8

Tu número de Seguro Social
Dar tu número, y quién puede verlo
Cuando solicitas una licencia de conducir o un permiso de conducir, tienes que dar el número de Seguro Social (SSN, por sus siglas en inglés) que te asignaron, o una declaración por escrito de que no te asignaron ninguno. Si das un número de Seguro Social, el departamento lo verifica con la Administración del Seguro Social.12

Examen de la vista
El DMV examina tu vista sin costo para confirmar que puedes manejar con seguridad. Si tomas el examen con lentes o lentes de contacto, tu licencia indica que necesitas lentes correctivos; si no lo apruebas, el DMV te da un formulario para llevar a un especialista de la vista con licencia.1
Examen de manejo
Tienes que aprobar una demostración real de tu capacidad para manejar un vehículo sin poner en peligro la seguridad de las personas o la propiedad.2
Intentos que tienes en el examen teórico
Solo puedes tomar un examen teórico en línea dos veces en un período de 24 horas, y puedes tomar cada tipo de examen teórico cuatro veces en línea; los intentos posteriores tienes que hacerlos en una oficina del DMV.14
Si el DMV determina que estás haciendo trampa, repruebas el examen y no puedes volver a examinarte durante 90 días. Si repruebas un examen teórico, puedes volver a examinarte el mismo día, según la disponibilidad de recursos para exámenes de la oficina del DMV.4

Solo quien solicita la licencia y el examinador pueden ir en el vehículo durante el examen de manejo. No los pueden acompañar traductores, familiares, amigos ni mascotas.17
El vehículo y su seguro
Si alquilas un vehículo para el examen y tu nombre aparece en el contrato de alquiler, el seguro del vehículo puede ser el de la agencia de alquiler, o puedes sacar tu propia póliza que cubra el vehículo del examen. Si tu nombre no aparece en el contrato de alquiler, tienes que darle al DMV una carta de la agencia de alquiler que diga que te extiende la cobertura del seguro del vehículo.18
Tienes que llevar un vehículo de pasajeros con el registro vigente y una prueba de seguro válida, y el examinador decide si tiene el equipo que el examen exige. El vehículo tiene que arrancar por sí solo y tener direccionales que funcionen adelante y atrás, luces de freno, bocina, una puerta de pasajero que abra y cierre con la manija por dentro y por fuera, un asiento de pasajero adecuado, seguro y razonablemente limpio, cinturones de seguridad, llantas que no estén lisas ni dañadas, y un silenciador sin fugas excesivas ni ruido irrazonable.19

(2) The department, by rule, may waive the actual demonstration required under ORS 807.070 (3) for a person who is applying for a commercial driver license or a Class C license if the person holds a valid out-of-state license or applies for an Oregon license within one year of the expiration of a valid out-of-state license. A demonstration may be waived under this subsection only if the person has applied for the same driving privileges as those granted under the person’s out-of-state license or for privileges granted by a lower class of license. (3) The department may waive the actual demonstration required under ORS 807.070 for a person who is applying for a commercial driver license, an endorsement related to a commercial driver license or the removal of a restriction from a commercial driver license: (a) If the person has been certified, as defined by rule, under ORS 807.080 or a similar statute of another jurisdiction as competent to safely exercise the driving privileges granted by a Class A commercial driver license, a Class B commercial driver license or a Class C commercial driver license; or (b) Under circumstances, established by the department by rule, that establish the person’s ability to drive without an actual demonstration. (4) The department may issue a Class A farm endorsement without requiring additional tests to a person who has a Class C driver license if a farm employer or a self-employed farmer certifies to the department that the person is experienced in driving a vehicle that may be driven only by persons who have a Class A commercial driver license and the person’s two-part driving record does not show either a traffic accident within two years of the date of application for the endorsement or a conviction for one of the following traffic crimes within five years of the date of application for the endorsement: (a) Reckless driving, as defined in ORS 811.140.
