What we collect and why
Name and email
When you save your progress, we ask for your first name and email address. We use this to create your account, send you reminders to help you stay on track, and keep your progress accessible across devices. No password required — we use a magic link to log you in.
Your immigration profile
As you work through SettleKit, we collect answers to questions about your situation — such as your visa type, origin country, destination state, and immigration status. This information is used exclusively to personalize your experience and show you the steps most relevant to you. We never share this data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Progress data
We store your progress through SettleKit blocks — which steps you've completed and which questions you've answered — so you can pick up where you left off from any device.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how people use SettleKit — which pages are visited, how long people spend on each screen, and where they get stuck. This helps us improve the product. PostHog collects your IP address and browser information. You can learn more at posthog.com/privacy.
Log data
Our hosting provider (Vercel) and authentication provider (Supabase) automatically log IP addresses and basic request information for security and fraud prevention purposes.
Third-party services we use
We rely on the following services to operate SettleKit:
- Supabase — stores your account data and progress
- PostHog — product analytics
- Vercel — hosts the SettleKit application
Emails
By saving your progress on SettleKit, you agree to receive occasional reminders and updates from us. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We won't spam you.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing team@settlekit.com.
If you're in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR — including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll delete your data within 30 days.
Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secure third-party infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you by email. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update.
