Getting Started
Your visa gets you into the US. SettleKit helps you with everything that comes after: driver's license, credit score, bank account, health insurance, taxes. In the right order, based on your visa and your state. You can ask us one specific question or get a full step-by-step plan.
Yes.
You tell us your visa type, where you're moving, and when. We build a roadmap of what to do and in what order. Order matters more than people think. If you open a bank account before you have your SSN, for example, you often lose the opening bonus. You check off steps as you go and skip what doesn't apply.
No.
Ideally yes. SettleKit builds your roadmap once you have your visa. If you don't have it yet, reach out to us. We have a list of trustworthy yet affordable immigration lawyers, based on what we heard from our users.
Your Privacy & Data
No. We believe you should have access to SettleKit's information without registering. If you want to save your roadmap and use our AI and reminder features, we need your email. That's it.
It's stored encrypted on a privacy compliant database (Supabase). You can change or delete your information in the profile section at any point in time.
Nope.
Nope.
Yup. Under the profile section.
Yes.
Because what you need to do in the US depends heavily on who you are. Visa, state, nationality, and so on. We don't want to give you vague or incorrect information. That's what you have ChatGPT for. We only ask what we need to make your plan specific. What we don't need, we don't ask.
SettleKit doesn't report to or feed into any government system. We can only speak for ourselves, but for our part: no, never.
No. That stays between you and us. Honestly, those are exactly the questions we're here for.
Honest answer: like every US company, we would be obliged under United States law to comply with a valid court order. Trust us that we would fight such a request like hell, but the decision is in the end not ours but a judge's. That's also why we collect as little as possible. What we don't have, no one can request.
For now, we would recommend they use SettleKit without an account. Everything on the site works logged out, and without an account there is simply nothing stored about them. We won't pretend the risk is zero, see the question above. We'd rather tell you the careful way to do it.
No.
Not if you log out. On a public computer, use private mode and log out when you're done. Same as you would with your bank.
Not yet. Reach out to us if you'd like that feature. We'll implement it for you. Give us a week or two.
It's saved. Come back whenever. If an account sits unused for a long time, we reach out and propose closing it. We don't keep data around for no reason.
Yes. Everything we have about you is in the profile section, and you can copy it from there. It's your data. If you need help taking it with you, ask us.
Trust & Accuracy
Three places. Official sources like the DMV, SSA, IRS and USCIS, with footnotes so you can check them. Our own experience moving here. And hundreds of conversations with people who are in the middle of it. When users hit a wall we haven't covered yet, we research it, verify it, and add it.
No. Neither is it financial or tax advice. We help you understand the process and your options. When something actually needs a lawyer or a tax professional, we tell you, and we can point you to ones our users trust.
Our main income stream is working with employers who offer SettleKit to their relocating employees. We also make money if you click on some of the product links on SettleKit. But we will never favor affiliates over other products.
Yes. But we will never favor affiliates over better products. That's why you can define in the app which factors matter to you, and providers are ranked based on those factors. Whether they pay us or not.
We provide footnotes and sources for you to check, and we review guides when rules change. If you spot something outdated, tell us. We fix fast.
Because the AI doesn't make things up on its own. Its answers are based on guides our team has researched and vetted, with sources you can check yourself. And when a question really needs a lawyer, we say so instead of guessing. The AI makes us fast. The humans make us right.
No. There is no upload yet, and we keep no copy of your passport, I-94, or anything else. If you connect your Google Drive, the forms you fill here are saved in your own Drive, and we only ever see the files we put there. The few numbers you type into a form, like your Social Security or passport number, are encrypted before they are stored, so we can fill them in for you next time. The one exception is a form we file for you, like the I-765 work permit. The person who files it sees what you wrote, because they cannot file it otherwise. Deleting your account erases everything we hold.
Your question goes to Google's Gemini API. That is the only AI company we send it to, and on the paid API plan we use, Google does not use your question or the answer to train their models. Sometimes one of us reads a question and the answer it got, to check we got it right. What travels with your question is your visa type, your state, and where you are in your plan. Never your Social Security, passport, or I-94 number.
Legally, no. We're a guide, not your lawyer, and the final decision sits with the agency. And honestly, DMV clerks get things wrong all the time, that's part of the problem we exist for. But we don't disappear when something goes sideways. Tell us what happened and we'll help you figure out the fix.
Cost & Access
Not as an individual. If we ever build paid extras, what's free today stays free.
Yes. That's kind of the point. SettleKit is built to be used before you have any of those things. Getting them is what the roadmap is for.
No. Just an email, and only if you want to save your progress.
Using SettleKit Day to Day
Update it in your profile and your roadmap rebuilds. Going from F-1 to H-1B, or from California to Texas, changes real steps. That's exactly why the plan isn't a static PDF.
Yes, in any mobile browser.
Skip it. One tap and it won't bother you again. If a step keeps not applying to people like you, tell us. Then our roadmap logic needs fixing, not your situation.
Yes, please. Sometimes you get an answer immediately. Sometimes we take a few hours to research it properly instead of guessing. Either way you get an answer, and the next person with the same question gets it instantly.
Yes. Wrong name on your I-94, bank account opened before your SSN, missed deadline. Most mistakes in this process are fixable, and fixing them is half of what we do. Tell us what happened. No judgment. It happens all the time.
Nothing happens automatically. Your account just sits there in case you come back, and many people do come back. If you want it gone, delete it in the profile section. And we're sorry. We know that one is about much more than paperwork.
Completely. Over a million people move to the US every year and hit the same wall. Our founder is a former attorney and banker and he still struggled. It's not a you problem, the system is genuinely this confusing. You don't have to hold it all in your head. That's what the roadmap is for. One step at a time.
