No—you do not have to hire a lawyer to draft your TN support letter; your employer can provide it, and a degree earned at an institution in Canada does not require a WES evaluation under the TN rule.
“Is it completely necessary to hire a lawyer to draft my TN visa support letter, or can my employer draft it? Also, do I need to get my Canadian degree evaluated for equivalency through a service like WES?”
Resumen
You can focus on getting an accurate employer letter and showing that your degree meets the requirements for your particular TN profession. You do not need to buy a WES evaluation just because the degree is Canadian.
Your Canadian degree answers the evaluation question, but your citizenship determines the TN entry route.
Your employer can provide the support letter, and you can present it with your qualifications when requesting from CBP at an eligible U.S. port of entry or preclearance station; a TN visa from a consulate is generally unnecessary (8 CFR 214.6(d)(2)–(3); USCIS, “TN USMCA Professionals”).
Your employer can provide the same type of letter, but you must first obtain a TN visa from a U.S. embassy or consulate before requesting admission. Having studied in Canada does not remove that visa requirement (8 CFR 214.6(d)(3); USCIS, “TN USMCA Professionals”).
A Canadian degree or Canadian permanent residence cannot substitute for Canadian or Mexican citizenship under the TN rule, so this classification is not available on those facts (8 CFR 214.6(a)).
These routes describe applying for entry from outside the United States.

Próximos pasos
These steps put the right letter and degree evidence together before you use the TN route available to your citizenship.
Before the letter is written
Match your job to a listed TN profession
Match the work you will actually do to a profession and its minimum qualifications in the appendix to 8 CFR 214.6: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-8/chapter-I/subchapter-B/part-214/section-214.6. If that profession requires a degree or a license for the work, the employer letter and your evidence must address it (8 CFR 214.6(c); USCIS Policy Manual, Vol. 2, Pt. P, Ch. 3).
Requisitos
Before applying
Have your employer prepare the support letter
Ask the prospective employer to provide a letter identifying the TN profession, describing the work and daily duties, stating the anticipated stay and pay arrangements, and explaining your qualifications. The regulation accepts an employer letter supported by credentials; it does not require a lawyer to draft it (8 CFR 214.6(d)(3)(ii)(A)–(E)). No separate government letter-filing fee or letter deadline is specified in that rule.
Requisitos
With the letter
Add your Canadian degree evidence
Include the degree or diploma that supports your qualifications. The TN rule requires a when the educational institution is outside Canada, Mexico, and the United States; it does not impose that evaluation requirement on a degree earned at an institution in Canada or require WES by name (8 CFR 214.6(d)(3)(ii)).
Requisitos
After assembling your evidence
Use the entry route for your citizenship
If you are Canadian, request TN admission from CBP at an eligible port of entry or preclearance station; a consular TN visa is not required. The Canadian classification-request fee is $50; if you apply for an I-94 at a land crossing, the I-94 fee is $30. If you are Mexican, complete Form DS-160 at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/, print its confirmation page, and apply for a TN visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate in Mexico before seeking admission; the listed visa application fee is $185. These routes require Canadian or Mexican citizenship (8 CFR 214.6(a), (d); 8 CFR 103.7(d)(11); USCIS TN instructions; Department of State TN instructions; USAGov I-94 guidance).
