The local DMV office will use the information on Page 3 of the Form I-20 to validate the nonimmigrant’s duration of status through September 30. Upon receiving approval for H-1B status, the nonimmigrant should wait 10 days and then return to the DMV to present the Form I-797 or Form I-797A and request that the DMV extend the driver’s license expiration date for a period of one year.
