I just received my ITIN. Before this, I had a credit history linked to my name and date of birth (at least with TransUnion) that has some late payments and a very low score. I am also changing my bank account, phone, and address. Will the credit bureaus be able to link my new ITIN to my past credit profile?
The credit bureaus do not need a tax number to link your profiles, but because you are changing your address and bank at the same time, they will not link your past history automatically.
You can cross this worry off your list. Because your address and financial details are changing all at once, the credit bureaus will treat your new Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) and new address as a fresh start unless you manually tell them to connect the two.
Credit bureaus do not require a Social Security Number or an ITIN to match and merge credit profiles. They match information using all the identification details provided by lenders, including your name, date of birth, and past addresses.
Because you are changing your contact details, including your address, phone, and bank, at the exact same time you are introducing your new ITIN, you prevent the credit bureaus from linking your profile automatically. They do not have the overlapping data they need to connect your past profile to your new one.
