Call Chase now about the same application, file a written TransUnion dispute now, and—if Chase cannot verify you manually—wait for TransUnion’s corrected result before reconsideration or a new application.
“I was denied a Chase credit card because my ITIN doesn't match what TransUnion has on file. Years ago, I used my foreign passport number to open credit cards. When I got an ITIN, I updated my creditors and the bureaus. Experian and Equifax updated my file, but TransUnion refused, saying they don't accept ITINs. How can I get TransUnion to update or merge my passport-based file with my ITIN, and should I try Chase reconsideration now or wait until it's fixed?”
Summary
Your strongest right is not a promise that TransUnion must enter an ITIN in an SSN field; it is your right to a reasonable of each inaccurate or incomplete file item. That gives you a concrete correction process and a documented route to CFPB if TransUnion does not resolve it.
Run the TransUnion correction and Chase same-application review in parallel; only a fresh Chase application should wait.
Identify every wrong personal-information item and every missing or separated account, describe the problem as a possible , and demand a free reasonable . The FCRA applies when the completeness or accuracy of any item in your consumer file is disputed and normally gives TransUnion 30 days after receipt (15 USC 1681i(a)(1)(A)).
Call Chase at 1-888-338-2586 now and ask whether the existing application can receive manual identity verification or remain available while TransUnion corrects the file. Chase says denial communications normally contain reconsideration information, but it does not promise this route will be available (Chase application-status guidance).
Do not create a fresh application while the stated TransUnion mismatch remains. Chase’s published guidance says to address the reason in the denial letter before reapplying, so a new application should wait until the mismatch is corrected or Chase confirms that it can verify you another way.
Neither the FCRA nor Chase’s published guidance guarantees approval, a particular internal file-merging method, or use of another credit bureau.

Next steps
These steps preserve the Chase application while creating the strongest possible formal record for correcting your TransUnion file.
Within 60 days after receiving the Chase notice
Request your free TransUnion disclosure
Request the complete TransUnion consumer disclosure—not only a score—without charge under 15 USC 1681j(b). Call TransUnion Consumer Relations at 800-916-8800, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Eastern or Saturday–Sunday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern, and state that Chase denied credit using TransUnion information. If an online flow requires an SSN, TransUnion says a person without an SSN may still have a file and its agents can help locate it.
Requirements
Now—do not submit a new application
Call Chase about the same application
Call 1-888-338-2586 and say: “I am calling about the existing application, not applying again. The denial says my ITIN did not match TransUnion. Can this application receive manual identity verification or reconsideration, or remain available until TransUnion finishes my dispute?” Record the date, representative, answer, and any application-specific reconsideration deadline Chase gives you. Chase publishes no universal deadline or guarantee.
Requirements
As soon as the report is available
Mail one complete TransUnion dispute
Write: “I dispute the completeness and accuracy of my TransUnion file. The accounts listed below belong to me but appear separated from my current identifying information. Please reinvestigate, correct my current name, date of birth and addresses, and link or consolidate these listed same-consumer accounts. My CP565 confirms my assigned ITIN; I am not claiming it is an SSN. Please send the investigation result and revised report.” Mail the packet to TransUnion Consumer Solutions, P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016-2000. The dispute fee is $0. Use tracked mail with return receipt and keep a complete copy.
Requirements
Count from TransUnion’s receipt date
Calendar the investigation deadlines
The normal deadline is 30 days after receipt. TransUnion may add up to 15 days if it receives relevant information from you during the first 30 days, so send the complete packet initially. It must send written results within five business days after completing the investigation. Compare the revised report against your list and confirm that the correct identifying information and every affected account now appear together.
Requirements
After a final response or once 45 days have passed
Escalate according to the result
Case A—TransUnion sent a final refusal or the dispute is otherwise no longer pending: request in writing the procedure used to verify the information; 15 USC 1681i(a)(7) gives TransUnion 15 days after receiving that request. Then file at https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ and attach the key documents, communications, and dates; the CFPB allows up to 50 pages. Case B—the dispute remains pending and fewer than 45 days have passed: wait to complain until it ends or day 46. Case C—TransUnion says a creditor verified old data: mail that creditor a direct dispute at the dispute address printed on your report, using certified mail and the same evidence.
Requirements
If manual review was unavailable
Return to Chase after the file is corrected
If Chase said the existing application can still be reviewed, call 1-888-338-2586 and request reconsideration using the corrected TransUnion result. If Chase said the application is closed or cannot be reconsidered, submit a fresh application only after confirming that the TransUnion mismatch and the stated denial reason are fixed.
Requirements
Legal sources
This answer is grounded in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, IRS and CFPB guidance, and TransUnion’s and Chase’s own published procedures.
15 USC 1681i
A direct dispute about incomplete or inaccurate file information triggers a free reasonable reinvestigation, normally within 30 days.
(a)(1)(A)
Subject to subsection (f) and except as provided in subsection (g), if the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in a consumer's file at a consumer reporting agency is disputed by the consumer and the consumer notifies the agency directly, or indirectly through a reseller, of such dispute, the agency shall, free of charge, conduct a reasonable reinvestigation to determine whether the disputed information is inaccurate and record the current status of the disputed information, or delete the item from the file in accordance with paragraph (5), before the end of the 30-day period beginning on the date on which the agency receives the notice of the dispute from the consumer or reseller.
15 USC 1681i
Relevant information sent after the dispute starts may extend the 30-day investigation by up to 15 days.
(a)(1)(B)
Except as provided in subparagraph (C), the 30-day period described in subparagraph (A) may be extended for not more than 15 additional days if the consumer reporting agency receives information from the consumer during that 30-day period that is relevant to the reinvestigation.
15 USC 1681i
TransUnion must give written results shortly after completing its reinvestigation.
(a)(6)(A)
A consumer reporting agency shall provide written notice to a consumer of the results of a reinvestigation under this subsection not later than 5 business days after the completion of the reinvestigation, by mail or, if authorized by the consumer for that purpose, by other means available to the agency.
15 USC 1681i
After an unsuccessful result, you can request the verification procedure and TransUnion must provide it within 15 days.
(a)(7)
A consumer reporting agency shall provide to a consumer a description referred to in paragraph (6)(B)(iii) by not later than 15 days after receiving a request from the consumer for that description.
15 USC 1681j

(b)
