Answered October 2026

Yes—mail is a sensible next step: if you have no SSN, start with Experian’s explicit no-SSN written-request route; if you now have an SSN, mail the official annual-report form using that number.

“I've had my ITIN since 2025 and opened my first credit cards with Chase and Bank of America in early 2026. It's currently late 2026 and Equifax gives an NH error, MyFico doesn't work, and AnnualCreditReport, TransUnion, and Experian all don't work either. I've called all of them and none were able to help. I also can't get my personal credit score through Chase or BoA directly. What should I do next? Is sending physical mail the next step?”

Summary

Repeated website and phone failures do not, by themselves, tell you whether your Chase and Bank of America accounts appear in a credit file. A written request gives you a concrete way to seek the underlying report and a written response you can use for the next step.

Yes, written requests are a sensible next step, but the right mailing route depends first on whether you now have an SSN as well as your ITIN.

You have no SSNno SSN

Mail Experian a written request under its explicit no-SSN procedure, with the identification and address documents it specifies. You can separately write Equifax and TransUnion at their direct-disclosure addresses, accurately saying you have no SSN and requesting their alternative verification instructions; neither publishes an ITIN-only exception in the instructions reviewed. [Experian](https://www.experian.com/help/annual-credit-report) · [Equifax](https://www.equifax.com/personal/education/credit/report/articles/-/learn/how-to-get-your-free-credit-report) · [TransUnion](https://www.transunion.com/get-credit-report/mail-or-phone)

You have since received an SSNhave SSN

Because online and phone attempts have failed, fill out the official [Annual Credit Report Request Form](https://www.annualcreditreport.com/assets/requestformfinal-BgD0iCRQ.pdf) using your actual SSN and mail it to the address printed on the form. The form requires an SSN; an ITIN is not a substitute. [Official request form](https://www.annualcreditreport.com/assets/requestformfinal-BgD0iCRQ.pdf) · [Experian](https://www.experian.com/help/annual-credit-report)

Enter the ITIN as an SSNnot a fix

Do not use this apparent shortcut: Experian says an ITIN would be recognized as an invalid SSN on a credit report. [Experian](https://www.experian.com/help/annual-credit-report)

Whichever route you use, obtain the underlying before treating an unavailable score as proof that your cards were never reported.

Watch out for

Do not put your ITIN in an SSN boxExperian says AnnualCreditReport requires a Social Security number and treats an ITIN entered as one as invalid. If you have no SSN, use Experian’s separate written-request instructions rather than substituting your ITIN on the central form. [Experian](https://www.experian.com/help/annual-credit-report)
A missing score is not proof of a missing reportFree credit reports do not necessarily include scores. A FICO score also requires an account open for at least six months and an account reported within the past six months. Your cards’ opening dates alone cannot establish whether their information reached a bureau. [CFPB](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/i-got-my-free-credit-reports-but-they-do-not-include-my-credit-scores-can-i-get-my-credit-score-for-free-too-en-6/) · [FICO](https://www.ficoscore.com/faqs-about-fico-scores-us)
The other two mail instructions still ask for an SSNEquifax and TransUnion publish direct-mail addresses, but their posted request instructions both list an SSN. If you do not have one, state that truthfully and ask what alternative identification they will accept; their published instructions do not establish that an ITIN-only letter will succeed. [Equifax](https://www.equifax.com/personal/education/credit/report/articles/-/learn/how-to-get-your-free-credit-report) · [TransUnion](https://www.transunion.com/get-credit-report/mail-or-phone)
Dispute an identified error—not an unread reportIf you obtain a report and find an incorrect item, dispute it with that reporting company and the company that supplied it, enclosing copies rather than originals. For a CFPB complaint about inaccurate or incomplete report information, first dispute directly with the reporting company. [CFPB dispute instructions](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-dispute-an-error-on-my-credit-report-en-314/) · [CFPB complaint notice](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/credit-and-consumer-reporting-complaint-notice-2/)

Next steps

These steps establish what each bureau actually has before you try to fix a score display or dispute an account.

First

Mail the request that fits your identification

No SSN: write that you have never been issued one and request your free report from Experian, P.O. Box 9701, Allen, TX 75013, following its [written-request instructions](https://www.experian.com/help/annual-credit-report). SSN now: complete the [Annual Credit Report Request Form](https://www.annualcreditreport.com/assets/requestformfinal-BgD0iCRQ.pdf) with that SSN and mail it to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. Do not enter your ITIN in an SSN field.

Requirements

If you have no SSN: your full name, including middle initial and any suffix; date of birth; complete addresses for the past two years.
For Experian’s no-SSN route: a copy of government-issued ID displaying your current address and a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, insurance statement, or similar document.
If you now have an SSN: your actual SSN and the other information requested on the official annual-report form.

Alongside the first letter

Send separate requests to the other two bureaus

Write Equifax Disclosure Department, P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374, and TransUnion LLC Consumer Disclosure Center, P.O. Box 1000, Chester, PA 19016. Request your file disclosure; if you have no SSN, ask each to state in writing what alternative identification it needs or why it cannot locate or disclose a file. Both bureaus’ published mail checklists request an SSN, so a successful ITIN-only request is not guaranteed. [Equifax](https://www.equifax.com/personal/education/credit/report/articles/-/learn/how-to-get-your-free-credit-report) · [TransUnion](https://www.transunion.com/get-credit-report/mail-or-phone)

Requirements

Your full name, date of birth, current address, and prior addresses.
A clear statement that you have no SSN, if that is your situation.
Copies of identification and address evidence; retain your originals and copies of the letters.

When the replies arrive

Compare the responses with your card records

Look separately for each card at each bureau. Ask Chase and Bank of America whether each account was furnished, to which bureau, and under what identifying information if a response does not show the expected account; creditors are not required to report to every bureau. An unavailable Chase or Bank of America score display does not settle that question. [CFPB](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-is-a-credit-report-en-309/) · [Chase](https://static.chasecdn.com/content/dam/legal-agreements/library/en/credit-journey-terms-and-conditions/versions/credit-journey-terms-and-conditions.pdf) · [Bank of America](https://secure.bankofamerica.com/content/documents/agreement/FICO_Print_Version.pdf)

Requirements

Your Chase and Bank of America account-opening dates and recent statements.
Each bureau’s mailed report or written response.

Only if a report shows an error

Dispute any error you can identify on a report

Send a written explaining the exact error and why it is wrong to the bureau showing it; also dispute with the company that supplied the information, using its dispute address shown on the report or designated by that company. The CFPB says you may use certified mail and request a return receipt to document delivery. [CFPB dispute instructions](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-dispute-an-error-on-my-credit-report-en-314/)

Requirements

A copy of the report with the item identified.
Copies, not originals, of statements or other documents supporting the correction.

After a documented failure

Escalate if written requests still fail

Submit a complaint through [CFPB’s complaint portal](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/) describing the continuing inability to obtain your report and attaching the correspondence. If your complaint instead concerns inaccurate or incomplete information on a report, first dispute that information with the reporting company, as the [CFPB complaint notice](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/credit-and-consumer-reporting-complaint-notice-2/) requires.

Requirements

Copies of your requests and any responses.
Mailing or delivery records.
If complaining about inaccurate or incomplete report information, evidence that you first disputed it directly with the bureau.

How to check my credit score only with my ITIN?

Go make an account on Equifax.com for Vantage Score 3.0 Equifax (free). Or pay their full service (there's multiple plans they got, check for the right one) to see TransUnion and Experian Vantage 3.0 Scores and each of the credit reports. Also try FICO.com for the Equifax FICO 9 Score. Don't pay for TransUnion and Experian scores, Equifax Fico 9 is the only one that works in Fico.com for itin users
