Answered October 2026

You cannot pay Capital One’s secured-card deposit directly without access to a participating U.S. bank account, but you can open and fund one using your ITIN, then pay from it.

“I recently got my ITIN approved and was approved for a Capital One secured credit card. However, to pay the security deposit, I need US banking credentials, which I don't have yet. How can I pay the deposit for my secured card without a US bank account?”

Summary

Approval does not mean you needed a bank account beforehand. Your can be used in an application for a suitable U.S. checking account; what matters now is getting that account funded and making the required card deposit before your approval window closes.

Watch out for

The 35-day clock is runningCapital One requires the full minimum deposit within 35 days of approval—not 35 days after you open a bank account. A deposit can take 7–10 business days to clear, and without the required deposit Capital One cannot open the card account. Start with the approval date in your letter or email. Cash and debit cards are not shortcutsYou can put cash into your own checking account, but you cannot give cash or a check to Capital One as the card deposit. Capital One’s Platinum Secured terms also exclude other money-transfer methods; its funding instructions require a transfer from a U.S. bank in the network. Paying by phone, where offered, does not establish a cash-payment exception. Capital One 360 may not solve this firstDo not assume you can open Capital One 360 Checking simply because you have an . Its disclosure limits eligibility to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who meet its other conditions, and requires a linked account at a U.S.-chartered bank. That does not solve your lack of a U.S. account to link. [360 Checking disclosure](https://www.capitalone.com/bank/disclosures/checking-accounts/online-checking-account).
The portal says “Social Security number”Capital One’s deposit portal labels its identity field “Last 4 Digits of Social Security number” but gives no instruction there for an ITIN-approved applicant. Do not invent a number; if that field blocks you, use the issuer’s funding-page number, 1-800-219-7931, for help with your application. Whether the field accepts ITIN digits remains unconfirmed. [Capital One funding portal](https://securedcard.capitalone.com/deposit).
A friend’s account is unconfirmedCapital One requires the person submitting bank details to confirm they are authorized to access that account. Its published instructions do not say whether an authorized account belonging to someone else is accepted for your deposit. Do not rely on that arrangement to meet the deadline. Your address changes the bank paperworkBank of America’s noncitizen instructions call for a physical U.S. address if you are classified as a resident alien; for a nonresident alien, they call for a physical foreign address and a U.S. mailing address. Its stated pathway may therefore not fit someone who cannot supply the applicable address. Next steps

These steps turn your ITIN and available deposit money into the U.S. bank transfer Capital One requires.

Start now

Find your approval date and required deposit

Use the approval date—not the date you open a bank account—to count Capital One’s 35-day funding window. Your approval information gives your required minimum deposit and application ID; Capital One permits installments of at least $20, but the full required amount must be submitted within the window. Its help page says clearing can take 7–10 business days. [Capital One secured-card help](https://www.capitalone.com/help-center/credit-cards/understanding-and-managing-secured-cards); [funding portal](https://securedcard.capitalone.com/deposit).

Requirements

Capital One approval email or letter
Application ID

Before sending the card deposit

Open an eligible U.S. checking account

One documented option for a non-U.S. citizen is an in-person Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking account: book a financial-center appointment at https://secure.bankofamerica.com/secure-mycommunications/public/appointments/?marketingCode=ENGPRO_ECBBA. Bank of America says an SSN is not required; it lists an unexpired foreign passport as a primary ID and a foreign driver’s license as one possible second ID. If it classifies you as a nonresident alien, its instructions require a physical foreign address and U.S. mailing address; if it classifies you as a resident alien, they require a physical U.S. address. The account’s minimum opening deposit is $25, and its published monthly maintenance fee is $4.95 unless a waiver condition applies, including maintaining a $500 minimum daily balance. Requirements

ITIN
Two unexpired IDs, such as a foreign passport and foreign driver’s license
Your applicable physical address and, if required, U.S. mailing address
At least $25 to open the example account

Once the account is open

Fund the checking account and obtain its bank numbers

Put enough money into your new account to cover Capital One’s full required deposit; if you have cash, deposit it into the bank account rather than trying to pay Capital One in cash. Bank of America says cash deposits are available on the day it receives them. Obtain the account number and its bank for electronic transfers—these are the numbers Capital One’s funding page requests. Keep the balance sufficient for the debit. [Bank of America SafeBalance clarity statement](https://www.bankofamerica.com/salesservices/deposits/resources/safebalance-clarity-statement?request_locale=en_US); [Capital One funding portal](https://securedcard.capitalone.com/deposit).

Requirements

Cash or other funds sufficient for your required card deposit
Your new checking-account details

Within 35 days of approval

Submit the Capital One security deposit

Use the personalized funding link in your Capital One approval email or letter, rather than relying on its moved general portal page. Enter the requested application details and authorize the debit from your funded account; each installment must be at least $20 and in whole dollars, and the total must reach your required minimum within 35 days of approval. If the portal’s field labeled for the last four digits of a Social Security number prevents an ITIN-based applicant from continuing, or you cannot find your application ID, call Capital One’s funding-page number, 1-800-219-7931; do not enter a made-up Social Security number.
