You should try for the PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signature first because it gives you flat 2% cash back, a $0 annual fee and no foreign-transaction fee.

I'm a European living in the US with a 759 FICO score and 1 year of credit history. Since my Capital One and Discover cards might soon all be on the Discover network, what Visa cashback credit card should I get for traveling internationally?

Summary

You do not need to guess or submit several applications: PNC lets you test preapproval without affecting your score. If it does not offer you Cash Unlimited, Autograph and Fidelity provide two clear Visa alternatives without foreign-transaction fees.

Your best Visa depends on whether you want flat cash back everywhere, higher rewards in travel categories, or already use Fidelity.

PNC Cash Unlimited Visa Signaturebest default

This is the best default for you: unlimited 2% cash back on purchases, a $0 annual fee, no , and statement-credit redemption with no minimum. Start with PNC’s score-neutral because the card requires a minimum $5,000 credit line.

Wells Fargo Autograph Visa Signaturecategory boost

Choose this instead if most of your overseas spending is travel, restaurants, gas or transit. It earns unlimited 3X points in those categories, 1X on other purchases, has a $0 annual fee and no foreign-transaction fee; its page equates 20,000 bonus points with $200 cash value.

Fidelity Rewards Visa SignatureFidelity users

Choose this if you already have an eligible Fidelity account. It offers unlimited 2% cash back with no annual or foreign-transaction fee, but the full 2% value applies only when points are deposited into an eligible Fidelity account; other redemptions have a different value.

Wells Fargo Active Cashnot abroad

Do not choose this for foreign travel: it earns 2% cash rewards but charges 3% on foreign transactions, leaving you one percentage point behind before any currency-conversion costs.

Watch out for

The $5,000 credit-line gatePNC says the Cash Unlimited card requires you to qualify for at least a $5,000 credit line. Because you have only one year of U.S. credit history, use PNC’s first; PNC says that check does not affect your score, while the CFPB says a full lender inquiry affects it.
Pay in local currencyA card with no can still be exposed to at a foreign terminal or ATM. Visa says DCC may include an exchange rate and extra fees, the merchant must let you accept or decline it, and you should decline if the required details are missing or you feel pressured—select the merchant’s local currency to decline DCC.
Do not use it for ATM cashPNC’s current rate sheet charges the greater of $10 or 5% for a cash advance, and its rewards terms exclude cash advances from cash back. Use a debit card designed for international ATM withdrawals instead.
The network move is not settled for your cardsCapital One’s July 9, 2026 guide says Discover accounts are moving to Capital One’s website and app in stages and that cardholders will be contacted directly. It does not announce that every legacy Capital One credit card will move to the Discover payment network, so do not treat that rumor as an account-specific notice.

Next steps

These steps get you one travel-ready Visa while minimizing unnecessary credit inquiries and avoidable overseas fees.

Before applying

Choose the reward pattern that fits

Use PNC Cash Unlimited for simple 2% cash back on every purchase; choose Wells Fargo Autograph instead if travel, restaurants, gas and transit dominate your spending; choose Fidelity only if you already have an eligible Fidelity account for the full 2% redemption value.

First credit step

Run PNC’s no-impact preapproval

Go directly to https://www.pnc.com/en/personal-banking/banking/credit-cards/pnc-cash-unlimited-visa-credit-card.html and select “See if you’re pre-approved.” PNC states that this step does not affect your credit score and that Cash Unlimited requires qualification for a minimum $5,000 line.

After preapproval

Submit only the chosen full application

If PNC offers Cash Unlimited, submit that application from the same official page and wait for its decision before making another full card application. The card’s annual fee is $0; the CFPB warns that a full lender inquiry affects your credit score.

Requirements

A favorable PNC preapproval result
Qualification for at least a $5,000 credit line

After purchases post

Redeem rewards as statement credit

Open the Rewards Center in PNC Online Banking and choose a credit to your Cash Unlimited account. PNC pays one cent per point, and its product page states there is no minimum redemption.

Requirements

An approved, open PNC Cash Unlimited account

At foreign merchants

Use the card correctly abroad

Choose the merchant’s local currency to decline . Do not use this credit card to withdraw cash: PNC charges either $10 or 5% for a cash advance, and cash advances do not earn cash back.
