You can activate your Mint eSIM over working Wi-Fi with the Mint app and your emailed 11-digit code, or contact Mint through browser chat without making a call.

I just landed in the US as an international student and I'm trying to activate my Mint Mobile eSIM using the airport Wi-Fi, but it's not working. How can I activate it or contact support when I only have a non-US SIM and can't make calls?

Summary

You are not stuck just because your only active line is overseas: Mint offers browser chat, and eSIM setup itself runs over working Wi-Fi or data. The most likely first fix is to complete the airport Wi-Fi login—or use a more stable secure connection—before reopening the Mint app.

You have three no-call routes, depending on where the setup is failing.

Activate in the Mint appstart here

After getting working internet, open the Mint Mobile app, select “Activate Your SIM Card,” and enter the 11-digit from the order-confirmation email. This is Mint’s standard new-customer route.

Install the eSIM manuallyQR fallback

If the QR code will not scan, choose the manual option and paste the and activation code supplied in the app or email.

Use browser chatno call

Open https://www.mintmobile.com/chat over Wi-Fi. Mint’s Fox Bot is available 24/7, and Mint lists live humans seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST, so a working U.S. calling line is not required for this route.

If you simply need service now, choosing a new Mint number avoids the unresolved question of whether your overseas number can transfer.

Watch out for

Finish the Wi-Fi sign-in firstA Wi-Fi icon does not prove the phone has internet. Complete the airport network’s login or terms page, or move to another secure Wi-Fi network or hotspot; Mint says you need a secure Wi-Fi connection or strong data signal throughout activation.
Do not delete your overseas eSIMDo not delete the working non-US eSIM just to troubleshoot. Mint warns that once an eSIM is deleted, it cannot be recovered; remove only profiles you truly no longer use.
There is a 45-day activation limitMint says its SIM cards and eSIMs can be activated only up to 45 days after receipt. If you are outside that period, use Mint’s browser chat before relying on the old code.
A transfer must finish before installationIf you are transferring a number, keep that service active and wait for Mint’s transfer confirmation before installing the eSIM. Mint says not to cancel the old service before activation and says the transfer must be complete before eSIM installation.
The phone must be unlocked and compatibleMint requires an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone with current software. On an iPhone, Settings > General > About must show “No SIM restrictions” beside ; otherwise Mint directs you to the former carrier for unlocking.

Next steps

Follow these in order so the internet connection, phone eligibility, plan activation, and eSIM installation happen in the right sequence.

Before opening Mint

Make the airport Wi-Fi usable

On iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the airport network, wait for its login screen, and enter the requested details or accept its terms. On Android, go to Settings > Network & internet > Internet, tap the network, and complete any sign-in page it presents. Confirm that a regular webpage loads; if it does not, move to another secure Wi-Fi network or hotspot because Mint requires secure Wi-Fi or strong data throughout activation.

Requirements

Your phone
The airport Wi-Fi login, or another secure Wi-Fi network or hotspot

Before entering the code

Confirm the phone accepts eSIM

Update the operating system and confirm eSIM compatibility. On iPhone, open Settings > General > About; “No SIM restrictions” beside means it is unlocked. If the phone is locked, Mint directs you to the previous carrier to get it unlocked.

Requirements

An eSIM-compatible phone
Current phone software
An unlocked phone

Within 45 days of receipt

Activate the Mint plan in the app

Select “Activate Your SIM Card” and enter the 11-digit code. For a fresh Mint number, select “Get a new one”; Mint assigns it based on the ZIP code you enter, and you skip the transfer steps. If transferring an eligible number, select “Keep your current one,” provide the requested carrier credentials, keep the old service active, and wait for Mint’s transfer confirmation before installing the eSIM.

Requirements

Mint Mobile app
Order-confirmation email
11-digit
Account number, PIN or transfer PIN, and billing ZIP only if transferring a number

After plan activation or transfer confirmation

Install the Mint eSIM profile

Choose “Scan QR code” and follow the app into the phone settings. If the QR code cannot be scanned from the same phone or will not work, choose the manual option and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the app or email.

Requirements

QR code from the confirmation email, or the manual and activation code
Continued secure Wi-Fi or strong data

If there is no signal

Restart and retry once

Restart the phone. On iPhone, also turn Airplane Mode on and off; then open Settings > Cellular, and if the Mint line appears, turn that line off and back on. Do not delete the working overseas eSIM profile.

If activation still fails

Open Mint support chat

Go directly to https://www.mintmobile.com/chat. Mint’s Fox Bot is available 24/7; live humans are listed seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST. The published phone alternative is 800-683-7392, but browser chat does not require you to place a call.

Requirements

A browser with working Wi-Fi or data
