Yes—your six-year Amex Mexico relationship makes Global Transfer a valid path if the card is directly Amex-issued, personal, primary, open, and in good standing; then you must build a separate U.S. credit file before applying for Venture X.

I just got my ITIN and was rejected for a Capital One card because I have no US credit history. I have a 6-year history with Amex in Mexico. Is Amex Global Transfer a valid path for me, and how can I build enough history to eventually get a Capital One Venture X card?

Summary

A rejection for a does not close the door. Your long Amex relationship gives you a strong official bridge into the U.S. system, but the U.S. account must then age and report cleanly before Venture X becomes realistic.

Your route forks according to who issued your Mexican Amex and whether Amex approves the new U.S. application.

Direct-issued personal Amexbest bridge

Use now: your six-year history exceeds Amex’s three-month minimum, provided you are the primary cardholder and the account is open and in good standing. Apply for a new U.S. Amex with your ITIN and U.S. contact, bank, passport, and employment details.

Bank-issued or corporate Amexnot eligible

This version of the Mexico card cannot use the process. Amex expressly excludes corporate cards and cards issued by banks other than an American Express Bank.

Reported secured creditfallback

If Global Transfer is unavailable or denied, use a secured credit card or credit-builder loan that reports payments to the nationwide credit bureaus. The CFPB lists both as ways to establish history; on-time reporting, not the deposit itself, is what builds the file.

Global Transfer and Venture X are separate credit decisions; neither approval is automatic.

Watch out for

Your Mexico card must be Amex-issued works only if American Express itself issued the card, you are the primary cardholder, and the account is open and in good standing. A corporate Amex or a card issued by another bank is excluded; your six years easily clears the three-month holding rule.
This creates a new U.S. accountGlobal Transfer is a bridge to a new U.S. Amex, not a transfer of six years of Mexican bureau age. Amex says you may seek additional cards only after building local credit history, so treat the new U.S. account as the start of that history.
One Amex at firstAmex says you may apply for only one U.S. card through this process at this time. Choose the first U.S. card for long-term usefulness rather than opening and closing accounts quickly.
Six months is only a scoring floorFICO generally needs at least one account open for six months and one account reported within the past six months to generate a score. That does not mean six months is enough for Venture X: Capital One labels Venture X as requiring “Excellent” credit but publishes no guaranteed score or account-age cutoff.
Eligibility is not approvalCapital One’s eligibility/pre-approval check is generally a , but pre-approval does not guarantee approval. A full application creates a , so do not use repeated formal applications to test whether your file is ready.
Act on the denial noticeYour Capital One adverse-action notice must give the reasons for denial or explain how to request them within 60 days, and it identifies your right to a free report from the bureau used within 60 days. Use that report to confirm that “insufficient credit history” is the only issue and dispute any error before applying again.

Next steps

These steps turn the denial into a clean U.S. credit file and delay the next hard application until your record is stronger.

Within 60 days of the notice

Read the Capital One denial notice and pull the report

Use the notice to identify the exact denial reasons and the bureau Capital One used. Request the free report from that bureau within 60 days; also obtain all three free weekly reports at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action. If the reports contain an error, dispute it with both the bureau and the company that supplied the information before any new application.

Requirements

Capital One adverse-action notice
The identity details requested by the bureau named in that notice

After confirming issuer eligibility

Apply through Amex Global Transfer

Call the U.S. personal Global Card Transfer team at 877-621-2639, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or use https://www.americanexpress.com/global-card-transfers/united-states.html/1000/. State that you are applying through Global Card Transfer and provide the six-year Mexican account number. Amex labels processing as 7–10 working days and says it may request identification within a week; after required documents arrive, it aims to deliver the new card within two weeks. Approval is still required.

Requirements

Direct American Express-issued personal card
Primary-cardholder status
Account open and in good standing
Existing Amex account number
U.S. home address and home phone
U.S. bank details
Passport details
Employment details
ITIN

Only if Global Transfer is unavailable or denied

Use a reported fallback if Amex excludes your card

Open one secured credit card or one credit-builder loan that reports your payments. The CFPB identifies both as credit-building products. Do not substitute a debit card, prepaid card, or payday loan; the CFPB’s credit-building page says those do not establish the same reported repayment history.

Requirements

Cash deposit for a secured card, or access to a bank or credit union offering a credit-builder loan
Written product terms showing payment reporting to nationwide credit bureaus

Every billing cycle

Build clean monthly history

Put only planned purchases on the account, set automatic payment for the full statement balance if affordable, and verify the payment before each due date. Keep below 30% of the limit when the billing cycle closes; lower is safer than approaching the limit. Amex says it reports monthly, and the CFPB identifies account age, closeness to the limit, and late payments as score factors.

Requirements

Approved U.S. Amex or reported fallback account
Enough cash to cover every purchase

After monthly reporting begins

Verify reporting and reach the scoreable-file floor

Use https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action to confirm the U.S. account and on-time status appear correctly. Six months is the minimum FICO file-age condition—not a Venture X approval target—so do not submit a new application merely because a score first appears.

Requirements

At least one account open for six months
At least one account reported within the past six months

After the file is scoreable—and longer if needed

Screen for Venture X before formally applying

Use Capital One’s no-impact tool at https://www.capitalone.com/apply/credit-cards/preapprove/. If Venture X is not shown, continue aging the account and paying on time rather than submitting a formal application. If Venture X is shown, decide whether to apply knowing that Capital One labels the card “Excellent,” pre-approval is not a guarantee, and the full application creates a .

Requirements

Clean reports
No late payments
Low reported balances
Capital One eligibility result that specifically includes Venture X, if the checker accepts your ITIN
