You can apply for SoFi Checking and Savings with an ITIN, but you must also meet its address, age, information, and identity-verification requirements.
“I am trying to open a SoFi account using my ITIN, but I keep getting an error. Why does this happen, and how can I successfully open an account with an ITIN?”
Summary
SoFi’s current application expressly accepts an ITIN, so the number alone is not an automatic disqualifier. The manageable next step is to correct any other eligibility issue or use SoFi’s secure document-review process.
Your best route depends on whether the error occurred during the application, during identity verification, or after a formal denial.
SoFi’s current instructions expressly tell applicants to enter either a Social Security number or an . You must also supply your date of birth, citizenship status and country, primary address, employment information, tax-withholding answer, and verified phone number [S1, S2].
SoFi first verifies identity electronically. If that fails, it may use by requesting identity and address documents; contact SoFi through its secure channel to obtain the upload link [S3, S5].
If you are a non-U.S. citizen and SoFi cannot verify you, Bank of America publishes an in-person route that does not require an SSN. It requires a physical address, two unexpired IDs, and a tax identification number when applicable; a foreign passport is one listed primary-ID example [S9].
These are valid application and correction routes, but neither bank guarantees approval.
