You can keep your existing history: verify all three reports, then correct every file that no longer shows your original BofA account after the SSN update.

I am an F-1 international student with a Bank of America credit card. I used to see my FICO score in the app, but after I got my SSN and updated it with BofA, my score disappeared. How do I get my existing credit history properly linked to my new SSN?

Summary

A vanished FICO display does not by itself prove that your earlier credit history was erased. This is manageable: the reports will show whether you only have a BofA app-access problem or whether a bureau needs to correct an incomplete file.

Your next route depends on what the three credit reports—not the missing app tile—show about the original BofA account.

All three reports show the full old accountapp issue

If every report shows the original BofA account, original opening date, and complete history under your current identity, your already contains the history. Confirm that your BofA Online Banking profile has the new SSN and U.S. address, then call BofA at 800-732-9194 to troubleshoot My Credit access (Bank of America My Credit and customer-service pages).

One or more reports omit old historycorrect files

File a free dispute with each affected and with BofA as the . Identify the same existing account, the missing opening date or months, and the SSN update; CFPB says fixing a report error generally means contacting both companies, and BofA's published page also directs customers to dispute account errors (CFPB, reviewed Dec. 12, 2024).

You cannot obtain or authenticate a reportidentity mismatch

Request all three reports by phone or mail, then use the affected bureau's identity-correction route. TransUnion specifically requires supporting documentation for an SSN change and lists an SSN card, driver's license, birth certificate, or court order as examples (TransUnion identity-correction page).

Use the report from each company separately because one file can be correct while another is incomplete.

Watch out for

The score tile is not the credit reportBank of America calls My Credit an educational service, and says its FICO score is based on the credit report when requested. A missing tile does not by itself tell you whether your account history is missing; the three reports determine that.
Your U.S. address must also be on the profileBank of America's current My Credit eligibility requires both an SSN and a U.S. address in Online Banking. Confirm both, plus your exact legal name and date of birth, when you call.
Do not make it an SSN-only dispute to BofA12 CFR 1022.43 excludes a direct dispute that concerns only identifying information such as an SSN from the furnisher's mandatory investigation rule. Ask BofA customer service to correct the identifier, but if history is missing, dispute the specific account, original opening date, and omitted payment history—not merely ‘please add my SSN.’
Dispute before filing a CFPB complaintFor inaccurate or incomplete credit-report information, CFPB says you must first dispute directly with the credit reporting company. Keep submissions, certified-mail receipts, and results; send copies, never original documents.

Next steps

These steps first locate the break, then correct the bank profile, affected bureau file, or both.

Start here

Confirm the same BofA account is attached to your new SSN

Call Bank of America credit-card customer service at 800-732-9194 (24/7). Ask the representative to confirm that the new SSN, exact legal name, date of birth, and current U.S. address are on the profile for the original card account—not a duplicate profile—and ask them to correct any mismatch. BofA's current My Credit rules require an SSN and a U.S. address in Online Banking.

Requirements

Your BofA credit card and account number
Your Social Security card
Your exact legal name, date of birth, and current U.S. address
An old and a current BofA statement, if available

Before filing a dispute

Pull all three official credit reports

Request Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion at https://www.annualcreditreport.com. If online identity verification fails, call 877-322-8228 or mail the completed official request form to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

Requirements

Your current identity and address information
Access to AnnualCreditReport.com, or the mail request form

Choose your branch

Compare the original BofA history on each report

For each report, record whether the BofA account appears, whether its original opening date is intact, and which months of payment history are missing. Also check whether the personal-information section reflects your current name and address. If all reports are complete, stop the bureau process and call BofA to troubleshoot only the My Credit display.

Requirements

All available bureau reports
Old BofA statements or an older report, if available

Only if history or identity data is wrong

Dispute every incomplete file and notify BofA

File separately with each affected bureau: Equifax through https://www.equifax.com/personal/credit-report-services/credit-dispute/; Experian through https://www.experian.com/help/dispute-credit/ or by mail to Experian Dispute by Mail, P.O. Box 4500, Allen, TX 75013; TransUnion through https://dispute.transunion.com and use its personal-information process for the SSN documents. State that the existing BofA account belongs to you, identify the original opening date or missing months, and request correction of the complete history under your current identity. Send the same account-history dispute to BofA by certified mail at the furnisher-dispute address printed for BofA on the affected report; include your contact information, account number, exact disputed facts, explanation, and supporting copies. There is no dispute fee.

Requirements

A copy of the affected report with the missing item marked
Copies—not originals—of your SSN card and government-issued ID
A utility bill or other current address proof
BofA statements showing the same account and earlier history
Account number and a short timeline of the SSN update

After the investigation period

Review the results and escalate if necessary

Calendar 30 days from receipt. Compare the results with fresh reports. If the missing history remains, or a required result does not arrive, submit one CFPB complaint at https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ and attach the report, your first disputes, delivery proof, BofA statements, and all responses; CFPB requires the direct bureau dispute first and allows up to 50 pages of supporting documents.

Requirements

Copies of every dispute and attachment
Delivery receipts or online confirmation numbers
Each bureau's and BofA's written result
