I'm a Canadian citizen entering the U.S. on an F-1 visa. Is my signed I-20 enough proof of financial support for the CBP officer at the Port of Entry, or do I need to bring updated bank statements? If I need bank statements, do they need to cover the 9-month estimate on my I-20, or a full 12 months or multiple years?
You must bring separate bank statements or financial documents; the signed ,[object Object], alone is not enough. Those documents only need to prove you have the specific amount printed on your Form I-20.
As long as your bank statements match or exceed the exact total shown on your Form I-20, you meet the requirement.
The federal regulation requires you to present two separate things at the border: your Form I-20, and documentary evidence of your financial support. Your Form I-20 states the required amount, but it does not prove that you have it. You must bring separate documents, such as bank statements or financial aid letters, to prove you hold those funds.
You only need to show funds that equal the exact amount printed on your Form I-20.
